About Mrs. Loy

   TEACHING

Hello, I am Mrs. Loy.  I am in my sixth year of teaching.  I teach 7th and 8th grade math as well as high school calculus.  I have a bachelors degree from Illinois Wesleyan University in mathematics, and I am currently working on a masters from ISU in mathematics education.

I have a true passion for teaching math through discovery.  Discovery math is all about using what you know to find out what you do not know.  Students collaborate in small groups on their quest to discovery.  It is through this journey that true conceptual understanding takes place.

PERSONAL

I am originally from a small town called Roscoe that is north of Rockford, IL.  After graduating from IWU, I married my husband of now thirteen years.  My husband and I have three children that keep us very busy.     Aside from my involvement with my children's activities, I have many hobbies.  I love to shop!  For exercise, I enjoy running and doing zumba. I have recently taken up golfing.  I enjoy sewing.  I do not like to cook.  My absolute favorite past time is reading.
